What is passion? At the conference I went to this weekend, that was the underlying topic. Passion, passion, passion… you can’t do anything without passion. I participated in a 52 hour startupathon, a conference for women entrepreneurs where we had 52 hours to transform an idea to a business, then pitch it to 9 very successful women. No big deal right?
What is passion exactly? I believe it’s having strong feelings or beliefs about something/ someone. It involves:
- Strong attraction
- Pushing through the hardships
- Breathing, taking breaks, and self care
- Celebrating successes
I was able to join an amazing group that challenged me like no other. My group member Hannah* was very passionate about putting together an online platform for Asian women to talk anonymously talk about staying fit and healthy, since Asians are perceived to be very body conscious but are not healthy in the way they “diet”. Why was this significant for her? She was one of them; eating practically nothing, but not exercising just to be “skinny”. But she realized that health isn’t something you play around with and wants to educate the community about it, influence them, and ultimately make a change!
Through 2.5 days, we were excited, frustrated, tired, hangry and determined. There were times when we wanted to give up because we could not agree on anything, but we all had a common goal to work towards. We didn’t end up winning, but that didn’t matter because at the end of the day, we were going to follow our passion and make this idea into reality!
